Fermi Logo Background

Hi!

I'm Siqi Fei. Most people know me as Fermi

I'm a Computer Science and Statistics student at the University of Toronto Mississauga. I spend a lot of my time building things, teaching things, testing AI things, and occasionally wondering why the bug disappears the moment someone else looks at my screen.

I'm especially interested in full-stack development, AI, data, and tools that make complicated work feel a little more manageable. I like projects that sit somewhere between "this is technically interesting" and "people could actually use this."

🌟About Me

I'm curious by default and usually happiest when I am learning something new.

That could mean building a dashboard, working through an unfamiliar codebase, evaluating an AI model, or trying to understand why a system behaves perfectly in development and mysteriously fails in production. I enjoy the process of turning vague ideas into real products, even when it means too many tabs, too little sleep, and at least one workaround I probably should not be proud of.

Studying abroad has also shaped a big part of who I am. It pushed me outside of my comfort zone, introduced me to people with very different perspectives, and taught me that growth often starts when you have no idea what you are doing yet.

💻About My Work in Tech

My experience in tech has taken me from research and teaching to product and engineering work. I have worked as a research assistant in a university lab, supported students as a teaching assistant, and contributed to IBM watsonx in both product management and software engineering roles.

Across these experiences, I have worked with full-stack development, AI model evaluation, and data-driven tools. I enjoy building practical systems, testing how they behave in real situations, and turning rough ideas into something people can actually use.

I'm especially interested in AI because it makes big, unfamiliar spaces feel a little more reachable. It gives people more ways to explore, create, learn, and step into fields they might not have had access to before.

🐾A Small Non-Tech Detail

Outside of work and school, I care a lot about animals. I have volunteered with animal rescue, helped foster animals, and spent time supporting local animal-welfare initiatives through student community work.

I also have a cat named Twenty. She is technically a cat, but emotionally she is a dog: clingy, curious, dramatic, and fully convinced that she is in charge of everything. She may not write code, but she provides strong opinions during every debugging session.

Working with rescue animals has taught me a lot about patience, adaptability, and staying calm when plans suddenly change — skills that are surprisingly useful in both life and software development.
